Compensation Analyst

Position Summary
The Compensation Analyst is responsible for partnering with HR Business Partner(s) and subject matter experts to provide compensation analysis and transactional support to facilitate and expedite key HR transactions. The Compensation Analyst will research job requirements and evaluate job positions to ensure that the university is competitive in the areas of salaries. A client-service oriented attitude is critical to this position.

Essential Functions
  • Works with departments to prepare and maintain job descriptions for each position in the university; ensures descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents. In doing so, the Comp Analyst will communicate with employees and managers to gather and document job, organizational, and occupational information including duties, responsibilities, and skills required by each job.
  • Assesses jobs and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or nonexempt and appropriate salary range.
  • Benchmarks jobs against survey data and other market intelligence to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position.
  • Prepares and maintains job classifications and salary scales.
  • Prepares and presents summary reports of job analysis and compensation analysis information.
  • Gathers data from market-based compensation surveys; uses spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends.
  • Advises management on applicable state and federal employment regulations, benefits and compensation policies, human resource procedures, and collective agreements.

Additional Functions
  • Conducts focus groups to collect employee feedback on specific issues or topics related to benefits and compensation.
  • Assists with processing requisitions in the employee recruitment system.
  • Assists with merit administration
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
  • Two years of experience as a compensation analyst required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resource laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
